As a physician, I see a lot of people with acne. These people are suffering from various degrees of skin issues including blackheads and spots. Many of these people are young, impressionable, confused and distressed.Acne can affect all types of people but is most common in the young - usually this is at or around puberty and at a time where their body is undergoing a major transformation from a child into a young adult.
Acne is not simply caused by dirt or build-up, but dirt and oil can worsen the condition. Other factors that elevate the chances of acne are certain tumors, endocrine disorders, oily skin, exposure to weather extremes, hormonal changes, stress, and the use of certain drugs (such as estrogen, testosterone, cortisone, and others). Acne is not contagious. A tendency to develop acne can persist through ages 30's to early 40's.
A pimple is an inflamed lesion, and picking, squeezing, or popping the pimples out will only aggravate the inflammation. Thus, it is best to leave the pimples alone because grave inflammation could also lead to skin infection and may eventually leave scars on the face. However, there is one kind of pimple that you can get rid off by gentle squeezing, that is the one with a small yellow pus head in the center. Popping the pus out will allow the faster healing of the pimple. Blackheads can also be rectified with gentle squeezing.
